connect_icut – Crows & Kittiwakes Wheel & Come Again (Rev. Lab./Aagoo) LP/CD

connect_icut - Crows and Kittiwakes Wheel and Come Again
The new connect_icut album – Crows & Kittiwakes Wheel & Come Again – is now available on LP (with deluxe eight-page booklet) and CD. The most intense and cosmic expression of the connect_icut sound so far, it anchors all manner of granular chaos and glitched-out abstraction in a solid foundation of three-chord pop. But don’t take our word for it: listen to a couple of songs on Soundcloud or watch the video for “Imperial Alabaster”.

And here’s where you can mail order a copy:

Distribution in North America is courtesy of Revolver. In the UK, distro is via Code7 and it’s through Orkhestra in mainland Europe.

Recommended if you like: Oren Ambarchi, Black to Comm, Kim Cascone, Sylvain Chauveau, Dalglish, Greg Davis, Vladislav Delay, Ekkehard Ehlers, Lawrence English, Farmers Manual, Fennesz, Ben Frost, Lee Gamble, Gas, Katie Gately, General Magic, Tim Hecker, Holly Herndon, Giuseppe Ielasi, Klimek, Machinefabriek, Stephan Mathieu, Mountains, BJ Nilsen & Stilluppsteypa, Oval, Rosy Parlane, Pita, Roly Porter, Sébastien Roux, Sohrab, Tape, Rafael Toral, Tujiko Noriko etc…

Praise for Crows & Kittiwakes Wheel & Come Again:

A chance to drink and socialize accompanied by background music from…

connect_icut (9:05-9:50) | http://connect-icut.com/
Sparse improvisations on a virtual Fender Rhodes, sampled live and arranged using custom-built generative music software. Dreamy and disorientating, if all goes to plan.

connect_icut – “Two Rios (Explosive Mix)”

Loscil (10-10:50) | www.loscil.ca
This incarnation of Scott Morgan’s loscil project features remixes of past works and premiers of new creations with live, improvised accompaniment by long time collaborator, Jason Zumpano on Rhodes piano. With a penchant for slow moving, low level, nearly static compositions, loscil carves out a soundtrack for hidden worlds and creates a listening space dually suited to deep listening or purely subconscious absorption.

Loscil – “Dub for Cascadia”

Kristen Roos (11-11:45) | www.kristenroos.com
Kristen’s live performance will involve using his voice and small percussive instruments manipulated with looping, delay, pitch and filtering pedals, to create a kind of psychedelic wallpaper, as background music for conversation at the bar.

Fieldhead - They Shook Hands for Hours

Bubblegum Cage III favourite Fieldhead will be playing at Blim in Vancouver this Friday to kick off a short tour of western Canada. Later this month, he’ll also be organizing a free show at Vancouver’s VIVO Media Arts Center, which will feature music from Loscil and connect_icut. More details on that when we get them. In the meantime, here are the details of the Blim show…

“FIELDEAD | http://www.fieldheadmusic.com
Fieldhead (Gizeh Records) is P Elam (originally from Leeds, UK, currently a resident of Vancouver, BC). He produces ambient/electronic music that delights in tape hiss, geography, bleak landscapes and decaying analogue loops. Fieldhead’s live show combines the grainy textures and dusty loops married with brevity and melody to be found in their recorded work with a slow burning sense of purpose and beauty communicated through a mix of electronics and ‘live’ instruments.

CHRIS TENZ | http://mini50records.bandcamp.com/album/frozen-arms
Chris Tenz (Mini50 Records) is a resident of Calgary, AB. His debut album Frozen Arms was released in December 2011 and communicates themes of loss and regret through brutally honest lyricism and sweet, spider-like melodies crossing from the harsh light of reality into the blurred lines of fiction. Chris’s music tells tales in a whispering voice set against panoramic soundscapes: it’s the music of aimless late night neon wanderings that brings to mind Mt. Eerie/Microphones set in a more desolate place.

MONGST | http://www.myspace.com/mongst
Mongst is the solo output of JV Dub (also of Shearing Pinx and Aerosol Constellations), and has released a number of EPs on Isolated Now Waves. Mongst’s music is vast, minimal, hugely engaging and a touch unsettling: long drawn out samples blend effortlessly with guitar drones to stunning effect.”

Coming Soon to a Venue Near You (As Long as You Live in Vancouver)

Oval

Oval

Vancouver, BC, obviously. Not the one in Washington. If you live there, you probably have to drive into Portland when you want to see a show.

Aaaaanyway, the point is there are some very, very exciting shows happening in Vancouver over the next few months. The big news is that Oval is coming to town, with support from label-mates Mountains! Quite the Bubblegum Cage-friendly double bill (just as long as those Mountains fellas don’t play too much stuff from their rather disappointing new album – LEAVE THE ANALOGUE SYNTHESIZERS IN BROOKLYN! THEY ARE NOT WELCOME HERE!)

Ahem, anyway… Here’s a round-up of shows this here blog is excited about, for one reason or another…

Fieldhead, Thomas Jirku, Gunshae, Hong Kong Soap Operas
A superb line-up of local electronica artists, as part of TKG’s Panambient series. Wonder if there’ll be food at this one.
Saturday August 27th (in the afternoon)

At Blim

James Blake, Teengirl Fantasy
He’s supposed to be rubbish live, isn’t he? Mind you, he’s supposed to be rubbish full-stop and he clearly isn’t. Teengirl Fantasy are said to be very good too.
Sunday September 25th

At the stinky Commodore, unfortunately

Secret Pyramid, No Ufos, connect_icut, Fieldhead & Cloudface
A real friends-and-family affair this one. More details closer to the time.
Friday September 30th

At Blim

Oval, Mountains
This is the big one. Absolutely the most important musical event to happen in Vancouver all year. If you live here and you don’t go to this, you must have cloth ears and a heart of stone. No excuses!
Sunday October 2nd
At the Western Front

Gang Gang Dance
A phenomenal live band. Probably worth braving a shitty venue for.
Saturday October 15th
At this here blog’s least favourite venue on the planet Earth, unfortunately

Portishead
Don’t get too excited – the tickets for this one are prohibitively expensive (and quite possibly sold out, at this stage).
Monday October 24th

At the PNE Forum

connect_icut – Let’s Hear it for the Vague Blur [Remastered] (Panospria) download

connect_icut - Let's Hear it for the Vague Blur [Remastered]

connect_icut - Let's Hear it for the Vague Blur

AVAILABLE NOW: THE FIFTH ALBUM FROM CONNECT_ICUT, REMASTERED AND DELIVERED AS A HIGH-QUALITY FREE DOWNLOAD FROM PANOSPRIA!

connect_icut – “The Left Hand of Darkness”

Here are the full details from the label:

“A varied selection of science fiction-inspired soundscapes. Sampling everything from classic hip-hop to birdsong to black metal, this is connect_icut at his angriest and most uncompromisingly abstract.

Let’s Hear It for the Vague Blur is the result of two years-worth of hard work that connect_icut stumbled through after completing his previous album, They Showed Me the Secret Beaches. The aim was to make darker, more complex material that was made entirely with custom-built software, using no plug-ins, hardware devices or other ‘short cuts’. After a series of disastrous technical decisions, the project was finally abandoned. The best material from the sessions was salvaged and released as a low-grade download, which did little justice to the quality of the material. Panospria is proud to present this high-quality release of Vague Blur, gloriously remastered by Joshua ‘Magneticring’ Stevenson.”
